CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
CAUGHT IN THE CROSSFIRE: A 16-year-old girl was shot on Chicago's Far South Side late Monday.
The shooting took place around 9:25 p.m. in the Roseland neighborhood near 112th and Normal, blocks from Fenger High School. The Cook County Medical Examiner's Office said Taylor Fitting, of the 9300 block of South Winchester Avenue, was shot in the head twice.
Her family was told an unidentified person dropped her off at the door of Roseland Community Hospital in critical condition, where they found she suffered a gunshot wound to the head. She was transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn. She was pronounced dead around 11:35 p.m.
Fitting was a freshman at Morgan Park High School, and lived with her grandmother in the Beverly neighborhood. Family members said she loved photography, but did not care much for school.
She had spent the Veterans Day holiday at home with her grandma and her boyfriend, and then went out at about 8:30 p.m. Monday. Her boyfriend said that he last saw her in a black Cadillac with two friends, with three people that he did not know.
"I just heard they dropped her off in a wheelchair," Fitting's boyfriend said. "Just left her on the side of the hospital."
"This is stupid. It's stupid," Fitting's grandmother said. "This is a wasted life. She's my baby. She's the only grandchild that I [had], and now I have none. "
Police have talked to Fitting's friends, but said they did not have anyone is in custody as of noon Tuesday. Area South detectives continue to investigate the shooting.
