AAA Mid-Atlantic: Sandy spurs NJ gas price boost

Posted: Updated:

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Motorists are seeing higher prices at the pumps in many parts of New Jersey, a temporary impact from Hurricane Sandy.

AAA Mid-Atlantic says the average price of regular gasoline in New Jersey on Friday was $3.65, up 9 cents from last week. That's also much higher than the price from a year ago, when motorists were paying $3.31.

Meanwhile, the national average price fell by 4 cents to $3.46. That's still higher than the national average from a year ago, which was $3.43.

Analysts say gas prices should start falling in New Jersey in the coming weeks, noting that most gas stations are now operating again and state-imposed gas rationing in 12 of the state's 21 counties will likely be ending soon. Demand for gas is also expected to decrease.
