Police seek leads in fatal shooting, #JusticeForHoney

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -

Police are asking for help in finding the killers of an 18-year-old woman in DeKalb County. Authorities say robbers shot and killed Vanessa "Honey" Malone when she walked in on them committing a crime.

Malone's family and friends say they're getting increasingly frustrated that the people responsible for her death are still out there.

Flora Malone says she's offering a reward for information about her daughter's murder.

"She's only 18-years old. She had dreams. She had a family who loved her, friends who loved her," Flora Malone said.

Honey Malone was shot several times on Oct. 23 after police say she interrupted an armed robbery at an apartment complex.

"This homicide is our top priority in the office right now.  We're working it at every different angle possible. We really need help from the community," said Detective Lynn Shuler of the DeKalb County Police Department

Shuler says Malone walked in on four to six men, armed with semi-automatic weapons who had tied up three people inside.

"The three victims tied up in the bathroom heard her come in and then heard the shots. So it appears that she was just in the wrong place at wrong time," said Shuler.

While police are following leads, they aren't sure they will pan out. They say this case may hinge on people in the community calling in anonymously.

"People over there know what happened. We just need somebody to come forward and let us know," said Shuler.

"Deep down they have to have a heart some place. They have to not think that it's right for these people to be out on street, thinking that they can just have fun, play video games and hang out at the mall," said Flora Malone.

Honey Malone's friends are also seeking justice and are continuing their social media campaign for information. Her Facebook page-- R.I.P. Honey -- has generated more than 125,000 followers.

Police say anyone with information can call CrimeStoppers anonymously.
