Storm Desperation: Gas For Sex

Posted: Updated:
PHILADELPHIA -

If we've learned anything from Hurricane Sandy, the storm has brought out some of the best of people. And unfortunately the worst.

People are targeting down-and-out storm victims to trade gasoline for sex.

"I think it's disgusting," said one woman.

A quick search on Craigslist.com and we found some creepy offers like this: "I'll gas up your car for a quickie."

Another says, "I got 15 gallons of gas will trade for some female company."

A 21-year-old in Delaware even posted his picture, telling women he's got a generator, food and alcohol. He'll even pay travel expenses. He also assures women, "Don't worry it won't be weird."

For folks like Charles Thomas from Woodbury, N.J., whose home got flooded and lost power, it's a slap in the face.

"It's just sad people are so conceited they try to take advantage of a situation for their own good," he said.

We found someone in Bucks County willing to do a little "charity"work, inviting utility and tree worker to the home for a little "relaxation" for free.

Then, there's this guy who put it right there in black and white. The ad says, "House to myself. Married white male. Discretion assured. Need to charge your phone or check your email?"

"It makes me kind of sick it really does" said one woman who lives in Center City.

"I think it's opportunistic. I can't believe that anyone would be desperate enough to take this seriously," said another woman.

Police tell us some of these ads are blatant prostitution, saying it all depends how the ads are worded.

"Unfortunately they are taking advantage of people in need and almost making fun of it," said a man interviewed in Center City.

We tried reaching out to some of the people who placed the ads. So far, no surprise, we got no response, FOX 29's Chris O'Connell reported.
