Kenny Chesney played the first-ever concert at Target Field this past summer. So, guess who's playing the second concert at Target Field? Kenny Chesney!
Kenny Chesney's No Shoes National Tour will stop in Minneapolis on Friday, July 12, 2013. The show will also feature the Zac Brown Band, Eli Young Band and Kacey Musgraves.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday December 7 at 10:00 a.m. CST. At that time, tickets can be purchased exclusively online.
An exclusive pre-sale for all new and renewed Twins' season ticket holders is scheduled for Tuesday Dec. 4.
"Kenny Chesney's performance in last summer's inaugural concert at Target Field was historic and unforgettable on so many fronts," said Dave St. Peter, Minnesota Twins president. "We expect this to be another great concert at Target Field, a place on its way to becoming the best outdoor music venue in the region."
Kenny Chesney's July 8th concert with Tim McGraw sold out in about four hours, and it was a hit with fans, the Ball Park Authority board members, and Chesney himself.
"After the second song, I knew I wanted to come back," Chesney said.
Yet, news of the Grammy-winning musician's return has been met with mixed reactions. Obviously, country music fans are excited to get a second chance to check out the show, but other music lovers are wondering why the Twins aren't giving another act a chance.
The announcement brought some push-back on social media, with one person sending Twins President Dave St. Peters a tweet saying, "Country music alienates people. It's great for intoxicated white folks, everyone else -- not so much."
K102's Amy James says critics just don't understand the power of country music fans.
"If it was just about anybody else in a venue like that, I'd say, 'Yeah, I don't know if you're pushing your luck a little bit -- but I think Kenny Chesney could come back for a third year if he wanted to and sell it out just as quickly," she said.
The Twins also say there were only a few acts that could be fit in with the team's touring schedule, and Chesney was among the cream of the crop.
"Chesney is an outstanding international performer who loves playing outdoor venues, who loves playing sports venues, and who is very, very popular in the Twin Cities market," Kevin Smith said.
