DETROIT (WJBK) -- A Detroit family is shaken up after armed robbers broke into their house while three children were home alone.

The armed robbers busted through a side door past security bars at a house on Manor.  15-year-old Dajanae Douglas, home during a day off from school, was upstairs baby-sitting her stepsisters, ages four and one, when she heard the commotion and came downstairs to see what was happening.

"He had a gun pointed at us," she said.  "I think it was an AK-47.  I'm not sure."

Douglas ran back upstairs.  She locked herself and the two little ones in a bathroom while she called family members and 911.

"We were all in the bathroom together behind the counter on the floor, and then I called the police."

The suspects left after that frightening encounter.  We're told family members arrived within minutes to check on the girls.

"Anything could've happened," said mother Kristen Smith.  "All I could think about the whole time was Lord, please take care of my babies."

"She did a wonderful job.  I'm so proud of her.  She did everything right."

The suspects are still on the loose.

"I'm glad they are okay," Smith said.  "I'm glad she handled the situation well because, like I said, anything could've happened, and I'm just thankful to God."

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is holding its monthly board meeting, two days after it heard from a panel on what it needs to do to improve its accountability and efficiency and restore public trust.
The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey could rescind a $1-a-year lease for a park-and-ride lot near the Lincoln Tunnel. The agency's chief of real estate and development told a committee Wednesday that it should change a deal made in 2012. Published reports have alleged that former Port Authority chairman David Samson voted to approve the lease even though his law firm did business with New Jersey Transit, which operates the park-and-ride lot.
