New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he wept at home on Friday night after returning from a concert benefiting Sandy victims where he met with Bruce Springsteen.

The governor, a Republican, has attended hundreds of Springsteen concerts in his lifetime, but the liberal rock star has not reciprocated that love.

The two hugged at the telethon benefit, Christie said on Monday. He said they had an opportunity to "chat for a while."

"He told me it's official: we're friends," Christie said.

The governor also said he has spoken to President Obama every day before and during the storm crisis and that on Monday the president called from Air Force One.

The president "told me in times of real difficulty, he thought that the only thing better than one Jersey guy were two Jersey guys… he put Bruce Springsteen on the phone," Christie said. "Bruce said to me how proud he was of his state and how proud he was of the people of this state and how tough they are. And he'll be back to the Jersey shore soon."

The Boss has been campaigning for the president.

Christie, who has praised Obama's leadership in the aftermath of Sandy, has been a vocal supporter of Republican candidate Mitt Romney.

The governor also said Monday he doesn't know what will happen on Election Day but expects Romney to win.
