A Marine from New York died in Afghanistan, the Department of Defense announced.
Cpl. Alex F. Domion, 21, of Richfield Springs, died Oct. 31, 2012, in a non-combat related incident in Helmand province, the Pentagon said.
The military is investigating.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo ordered flags on state government buildings to be flown at half-staff on November 6 in Domion's honor.
"I join with all fellow New Yorkers in mourning the loss of Cpl. Domion. New York sends its deepest sympathies to his family, friends, and fellow Marines," Cuomo said in a statement. "As we honor his service and sacrifice, we are grateful for his dedication to our nation."
Domion was assigned to 2nd Combat Engineer Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, II Marine Expeditionary Force, based out of Camp Lejeune, N.C.
Richfield Springs is a village in central New York.
