All flights canceled at tristate major airports

All carriers ceased operations at the major airports of the tristate region due to Hurricane Sandy.

The airports remained open as stranded passengers looked for a place to ride out the storm.

The massive storm threatens to bring a near halt to air travel for at least two days in a key region for both domestic and international flights. The flight-tracking service

Both Philadelphia International Airport and Newark International Airport, a hub for United Airlines, each had more than 1,200 cancellations starting Sunday night.

The resulting delays are rippling across other U.S. cities and are even affecting travelers to and from Europe and Asia.
