CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
After the not so shocking news from the Chicago White Sox Friday, FOX Chicago's Robin Robinson sat down with now former General Manager Kenny Williams.
As the team's new executive vice president, he says that he plans to make sure new General Manager Rick Hahn does far better in one aspect of his old job.
"I really don't want to hear any backlash when he may be, it may be 7 o'clock on a game night and he's out at Jake or Charlie's - his two sons - he might be at their soccer game or their baseball game," Williams said. "Because I'm gonna be there supporting him in that fashion."
"It's so much easier to do the job number one if you have a whole life, if you have a balanced life and unfortunately I'm just now getting to that point and realizing that."
But Williams admits he was out of balance by choice. He says he had a promise to keep and something to prove.
"The day that I accepted this position 12-years ago, I said I was going to exhaust myself in the quest to try to bring multiple championships to the White Sox," Williams said.
When asked if he felt more pressure than other general manager's to perform because he was the first African-American general manager in Major League Baseball, Williams responded, "Hell yes."
"We go way back, you know personally how hurt I was when I sat down at that initial press conference and there were some rumblings, public rumblings from some of the radio people who said the only reason I got the job was because I was black," Williams said.
Williams talked about the next barrier he would like to shatter in baseball as he showed me around his new digs in the city -- and he opened up about his love life...
Sorry ladies, one of Chicago's most eligible bachelors is off the market.
