How to prepare for 'Frankenstorm'

A big storm will be rolling into the tristate region beginning Sunday.

The American Red Cross of Greater New York wants to help residents prepare for the impact of heavy rain, strong winds and flooding.

CEO Josh Lockwood shared the following preparedness tips during Good Day New York on Friday. The following items should be easily accessible in your home. You can also download the Hurricane App by visiting the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store for Android.)

Water-at least one gallon per person per day·        

Food-foods that require no refrigeration, preparation or cooking and little or no water (e.g., canned foods, energy bars). Be sure to include a manual can opener.         

Battery-powered radio/flashlight (with extra batteries) or crank radio/flashlight.        

Special needs items-for children and older loved ones, as well as pets or service animals

Personal items-eye glasses/contact lenses and solution, hygiene items, charged cell phone batteries.

Copies of important documents in a waterproof container (ID, proof of residence, insurance info, emergency contact card)

Prescription info-name, dose, doctor's name and number

    Fans of the Star Wars franchise are getting another peek at the latest film courtesy of director J.J. Abrams. Abrams, shooting in “sunny London,” posted a video on Omaze plugging his “Force for Change” fundraiser to benefit UNICEF.  In the video, Abrams displays the new X-Wing Fighter being used on the set for Star Wars: Episode VII.
