Retired Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O'Connor sits on NY court

NEW YORK (AP) - The first woman to sit on the U.S. Supreme Court has taken a chair for a day on a panel of the federal appeals court in New York.

Sandra Day O'Connor heard arguments in four cases on Thursday. She was slated to hear four more cases on Friday.

The 82-year-old O'Connor retired from the Supreme Court in 2006 after 25 years. She has decided cases in the Manhattan appeals court before. Retired justices have occasionally sat on federal appeals courts as visiting judges.

Among the cases O'Connor heard Thursday was an appeal of the conviction of a former chief executive of Duane Reade Inc.

On Friday she's scheduled to hear arguments in an organized crime conviction.
