NEW MILFORD, N.J. (AP) -- Some New Jersey towns have imposed a Halloween curfew in the wake of recent reports of attempted child lurings.
Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent after 8 p.m. on Oct. 30 and Halloween in New Milford and Dumont.
A 12-year-old in Bergenfield on Monday became the 15th child in Bergen County since mid-September to claim he was accosted by a man in a pickup.
Police say the recent spike in attempted luring reports may simply be misunderstandings fueled by media frenzy.
The Record newspaper reported Wyckoff Police Chief Benjamin Fox told residents the number has exceeded anything he has seen in 35 years as a police officer.
Lyndhurst police determined two boys made up a luring story earlier this month.
NOTE: These are towns that have provided curfew information to Fox 5/My 9.
