Islanders moving to Brooklyn's Barclays Center

A source tells Fox 5 News that the New York Islanders are going to move from Nassau County to Brooklyn's Barclays Center.

The move could come as early as the 2015 season.

A 1 p.m. news conference was planned at the new arena with the owner of the team along with developer Bruce Ratner and Mayor Michael Bloomberg.

The Islanders currently play in the Nassau Coliseum, in Uniondale.  The arena is one of the oldest NHL facilities and has been called obsolete for years.

Islanders owners have been trying to replace it.  In 2011, Nassau County voters rejected a proposal for a new, taxpayer funded arena at the site.

The start of the 2012 NHL season has been delayed due to an ongoing labor dispute.  The league locked-out players on Sept. 15, 2012 after the current contract expired.

The biggest issue is the percentage of revenues paid to players by the owners.
