New pap smear guidelines released

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

New guidelines out Tuesday say most women need pap tests every three to five years. But that depends on your age.

If you're 21 to 29 and show no signs of trouble, doctors say test every three years.

If you're 30 to 65-years-old, doctors say you can wait five years for your next pap.

But that's only if your pap and other tests are fine.

Right now many women go every year.

There's a growing consensus among experts that it's safe for women to wait longer between pap smears.
