FERNDALE, Mich. (WJBK) - A man who police say stole a truck and attempted to rob a home in Ferndale is behind bars.

Jeffery Reiher, 32, allegedly stole the vehicle from Livonia last week and tried to break into the home of Dupree Smith on Friday morning.

Smith, 34, heard noises and ended up firing shots at Reiher as he fled the scene. "I (saw) the silhouette in the window, so I fired twice," Smith told FOX 2's Amy Lange last week.

A tipster spotted the stolen truck Sunday night parked at a Redford gas station. Police were called to the scene and Reiher was arrested.

The case has been presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor's office for a determination of charges.

An arraignment could happen as early as Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
