Davell Mathis, 19, as heading to the mall with a few of his buddies but he never made it. He was only a few blocks from home when he was caught in a shootout. Now, his mom is planning his funeral. It happened on Liddesdale St.

Davell's mom says three of her son's friends stopped by their home earlier in the day; they needed him to drive. The four guys were just a few blocks away, when there was a shootout. Possibly in retaliation for an altercation connected to the murder of Chanel Weddington. The 22-year-old died after shots rang out at an after hours club in Ecorse earlier this month.

Davell had just started a new job and was in the process of joining the military. He was a young man loved by his mother, a mother who tried to shield him from the streets of Detroit. There were three other people in the car with Davell, two left the scene before police arrived. The third person is being questioned.
