A patient on Long Island is suffering from a medical complication after being injected with a recalled steroid that has been linked to a meningitis outbreak, state health officials said.
But the patient does not have meningitis, the Department of Health said. The steroid was injected into a joint, injected into a joint, causing septic arthritis.
The Nassau County resident is being treated for the illness, which is not considered life-threatening, health officials said.
County health officials and the CDC are investigating the case.
Officials confirmed the methylprednisolone acetate was indeed from a Massachusetts company's recalled batch that has been linked to a nationwide meningitis outbreak that has killed more than a dozen people.
Three medical offices in New York received shipments of the recalled lots: one in Mineola, one in Mount Vernon, and one in Rochester.
