NEW YORK (AP) - The city has received several proposals for redesigning the public space around Grand Central Terminal.

The Department of City Planning has proposed rezoning the area around the terminal to allow for a handful of new office towers.

The Municipal Art Society of New York has asked for proposals from three architecture firms.

The Wall Street Journa says they include a pedestrian halo suspended in the sky between two office towers. It would move up and down to give visitors views of the city from different heights.

There's a proposal for an elevated glass walkway and seasonal grasses. And there's a pedestrian plaza with sidewalk cafes and retail.

The proposed rezoning is still in the early stages of the public approval process.

The plans are expected to be unveiled Thursday.
