Plea deal in works for Rye teens accused on hazing 8th graders

Three Rye High School students accused of hazing incoming freshmen walked into Rye City Court Tuesday to learn their fate.
Police say in June they forced eighth-graders into a car, drove them to the Marshlands Conservancy, and allegedly beat them so badly with a paddle that their skin was raw.
Initially, the teens were charged with felony assault and misdemeanor counts of hazing and unlawful imprisonment.
But in court Tuesday, prosecutors dropped the felony charge and said a plea deal was in the works.
At one point, the judge ordered members of the media out of the courtroom because most the proceedings were closed to the public.
One of the teens' attorneys had little to say on his way out of court except that the proceedings are sealed.
