CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -
Want to lose weight? Well, now you have yet another reason to get more sleep.
A study from the University of Chicago found people who did not get enough sleep were more likely to gain weight.
The study compared people getting 4 ½ hours of sleep, to people getting 8 ½ hours.
The group with less sleep showed less of an ability to break down fat.
FOX Chicago medical contributor, Dr. Mona Khanna said that's because their bodies were trying to conserve energy, to make up for the lost sleep.
University of Chicago researchers said their study shows that people who think they can get by with a few hours of sleep a night are not considering the long term effects on their health.
