National Boss Day

MYFOXNY.COM -

October 16 is National Boss Day.

The designation offers employees an opportunity to recognize their employers with thank you cards, flowers or even gift certificates.

The first time National Boss Day was marked was in 1958 when Patricia Bays Haroski, an employee at State Farm Insurance Company in Deerfield, Ill., registered the holiday with the Chamber of Commerce of the United States.

While many may consider acknowledging their bosses in a positive way, many will not.

According to a recent study by workplace expert Michelle McQuaid, approximately one-third of employees feel unappreciated by their boss.

Close to 70% of those polled said they would be happier at work if they got along better with their employer.

Thirty-one percent of employees polled feel uninspired and unappreciated by their boss and close to 15 percent feel downright miserable, bored and lonely.

McQuaid also wrote the book, '5 Reasons to Tell your Boss to Go F**K Themselves,' says, the unappreciated, unsatisfied employees are costing the nation $360B in lost productivity.
