NEW YORK (AP) - Federal prosecutors have charged a Long Island businessman of defrauding the producers of the Broadway musical "Rebecca."
The U.S. attorney's office in Manhattan said Monday that Mark Hotton falsely informed the producers he had $4.5 million in financing commitments and the possibility of a $1.1 million loan. It says he did so in an effort to get more than $60,000 in fees and commissions.
Hotton was arrested at his home early Monday and was awaiting a court appearance in Central Islip.
U.S. Attorney Preet Bharara said Hotton also is accused of using a similar scheme to trick a Connecticut-based real estate company into paying $750,000 to him and entities he controlled.
He's charged with two counts of wire fraud.
His attorney did not return a call for comment.
