Skydiver breaks sound barrier in record jump

Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner, known as "Fearless Felix," jumped from 24 miles above the earth, breaking a record. 

Baumgartner broke the sound barrier with a plunge from a balloon. He reached a speed of 833.9 miles per hour during the jump over the New Mexico desert.

He jump took about nine minutes to complete and Baumgartner landed safely. "Fearless Felix" landed on his feet and lifted his arms in victory to the cheers of jubilant friends and spectators who closely followed his descent in a live television feed at the command center.
