A Good Samaritan helped save a man's life in Midtown on October 5 and now his family wants to find him to say thank you.
40-year-old Jason Kroft from Toronto was walking with his wife, Marci, and their two children on Sixth Avenue and 45th Street when he suffered a heart attack.
Marci Kroft, 38, screamed for help as their son and daughter began to cry as Jason started to turn blue. His family said he was on the verge of death when the anonymous Samaritan walked over and began CPR.
The Good Samaritan ripped open Kroft's shirt and went to work saving his life. He pumped Kroft's chest so hard he broke several of his ribs.
EMS took Kroft to St. Luke's Hospital where he underwent open-heart surgery.
Kroft was in stable condition Saturday and doctors say he will remain hospitalized for another week or two before he's transferred to a hospital in Toronto.
Doctors expect he'll fully recover and say he would have died if the Good Samaritan didn't start CPR within four minutes of his heart attack.
Kroft's wife and children never got a chance to thank the helpful stranger who disappeared into the Midtown crowd. His family Saturday put up posters around Midtown and Times Square so that the guardian angel will come forward.
Marci Kroft said the Good Samaritan was a red-headed man who looked to be his mid-40s and was wearing a blue jacket and dress pants.
