The extra trains began running on two lines in and out of Grand Central Station on Sunday – but could this cost you down the road?
All aboard!
Commuters can now ride more comfortably more often on Metro-North starting Sunday, 69 trains have been added to the Commuter rail service for East of Hudson lines.
"I think it's a great idea, makes it easier to come back and forth," said one happy commuter.
"I'm happy they're adding more trains because it gives us extra flexibility in our very busy schedule," added another commuter.
That's exactly what the MTA is hoping to accomplish by adding the extra trains. On the New Haven line – there will be 15 more trains on weekdays, an additional 30 on weekends. As for the Harlem line – 24 more weekend trains.
The MTA says the increased service will now make it easier to travel during off peak hours.
"I think it's great, a lot more room on the train," said one passenger.
But does this mean you'll have to pay more?
The MTA is expected to formally announce its fare hike proposals Monday. Possible options range from raising a subway/bus ride a quarter to monthly passes sky rocketing to $125.00.
"I'm always worried about paying more in the long run. I have a budget and certainly it's a worry for me," said a commuter.
A worry that could soon become a reality – meantime Metro-North says it will continue to improve its service.
They plan on adding more trains in the spring, bringing their total to 220 extra trains.
