Water Main Break in Old City

Posted: Updated:

The Philadelphia Water Department is in the process of repairing a water main that broke this afternoon in Old City.

The 36 inch water main broke around noon near 3rd and Walnut Streets. Water pressure was  affected throughout parts of the city as a result of the break. The water main is said to be similar in size to the one that broke during the summer at 21st and Bainbridge Streets.

Water pressure and service has since been restored to businesses and residents.

Workers initially went to 3rd and Walnut to find a leak. When workers were removing debris from the joint to find the leak, the water main then ruptured.

Drivers in the area should expect delays in the area as crews continue to work on the break.
