An explosion rocked an ink plant in Bergen County Tuesday afternoon, injuring seven people, according to Sun Chemical, the owner of the plant.

The blast happened in the pre-mix room of the US Ink Plant in East Rutherford at about 1:20 p.m., the company said.

Workers were mixing newspaper ink in a vat when a carbon compound ignited, the AP reported.

Firefighters brought the fire under control within 25 minutes, authorities said.

Video from the scene showed medics loading at least two patients into ambulances.

Medics treated several other employees at the scene, the company said.

Sun Chemical produces printing inks and pigments.
