Gov. Cuomo hires ex-NBC Universal executive as new communications director

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo has hired a former chief spokesperson for NBC Universal as his administration's communications director.
Allison Gollust replaces Richard Bamberger, who has worked for Cuomo since the latter's days as state attorney general.
"It is an honor to welcome Allison to our team and I thank her for bringing her talents to New York state government," Cuomo said in a statement. "Allison is a consummate professional who has a wealth of experience in communications and management. Her extraordinary work ethic, intellect and dedication will be essential to this position and I look forward to working with her."
A report by CapitalNewYork.com suggests this is a step in Cuomo's journey to become a national figure because of Gollust's vast experience with national media. Bamberger, the outgoing communications director, had a career in local TV news before joining Cuomo.
Gollust began her career as a journalist in Colorado, became the director of communications for Major League Soccer, and then joined NBC News Communications in 1998. At NBC, she served as a spokesperson and publicist for various shows, including Today, Dateline, and Meet the Press.
Most recently at NBC Universal, Gollust served as executive vice president of Corporate Communications.
