Cecilia Reyes, the mother of Noel Polanco, 22, who was shot and killed by a police officer on the Grand Central Parkway says her son should not have been shot.

"I'm sorry to say.. they need to start using their minds before they use their hands," Reyes told Good Day New York about the officer who shot her son.

Polanco was reportedly weaving in and out of traffic when he was pulled over by police.

Two uniformed officers -- a sergeant and a detective -- approached on either side, according to NYPD spokesman Paul Browne.

For reasons still unclear, the detective on the passenger side fired one round through an open window, striking the driver in the stomach, Browne said.

The details leading up to the shooting are disputed by the NYPD and the passengers in the vehicle with Polanco.

Police found a power drill in Polanco's car.

"He used it for work," Reyes told GDNY on Monday.
