CANTON, Ga. -

State investigators are looking into a deadly officer involved shooting that happened in Cherokee County on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to a report of a suicidal man in the 300 block of Hideaway Acres near Canton just before noon on Saturday.

Deputies arrived to find a man shooting off a .45 caliber handgun. They ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he refused. Deputies say they were forced to shoot the man.

He was transported to the hospital where he later died.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in to review the incident. The three deputies who responded to the scene were placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of that investigation.
