Crowds of teens no longer hanging around Detroit gas station

Posted: Updated:

DETROIT -- A Detroit gas station was being taken over by teenagers, but since our story aired, they're all gone.  Now the customers are coming back.

Surveillance cameras at the gas station captured crowds of young men treating the store like a clubhouse.  Some could be seen smoking.  Another even spit into the sink.

The crowds of teens were so out of control that people who lived nearby didn't even want to stop there.

The story went viral and struck a nerve with people across the country.  So we decided to stop back by the station to check things out.  It appears ending up on the news was enough to end the party.

"Nobody's hanging out (anymore) in the gas station.  It's been a lot better," said a clerk.

He also said Detroit Police have been keeping a close eye on the station and because the crowds are gone, the customers are coming back.

"We just want to thank the police for their help and you guys for what you guys did," the clerk said.
