DETROIT -- The scandal involving Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee was really the elephant in the room at Thursday's police commission meeting. Commissioners made it very clear they want to be the ones to handle this investigation, not the Department of Human Resources.
Meanwhile, Detroit citizens and activists sounded off.
"We are worried about the safety of the citizens, especially with the officer who (appeared) on Twitter and Facebook with the city (issued) revolver in her mouth complaining about the (chief's) female drama. Is she going to be put back into the street with a city (issued) police revolver, or is she going to be put somewhere where she can get some psychiatric help and get over Chief Godbee and his female catfish drama?" said one woman. "The leadership is too busy chasing catfish instead of the criminal, and I am here and we're here to demand that the chief be removed."
"If people want to be concerned about titillating and salacious things, then they should go to a peep show," said Ron Scott from the Detroit Coalition Against Police Brutality. "Let's grow up people. Let's find out what the truth of the matter is and if there is something wrong, let's do it. Let's deal with it and let's move on and move the department ahead, but if there's nothing wrong, then let's move on, too."
During the meeting, the commissioners said that they did send a memo to the mayor's office, but the mayor's spokesperson said they have not received it yet and they cannot comment because this is an open investigation.
