A neighbor's quick-thinking actions help catch a several suspected burglars in DeKalb County on Thursday.
De-reek Banks said he saw four men breaking into his neighbor's home in the Brittany Park subdivision around 10:30 a.m. Banks and his wife were in the driveway off Panthersville Road when they saw the men kick in the front door of the home.
"Two guys came out of the house, threw a television in the back and sped off," said Banks.
The father of three knew that his neighbor wasn't home, so he sprang into action. He grabbed his camera and began snapping away.
While Banks snapped away, his wife called 911, Banks said he knew he had to get pictures as proof. In fact, he says as the men drove away, he continued to go after them.
"I was thinking that he could possibly be armed. I did try to stay on this side of the street and the mailboxes here are brick. So I was trying to post behind the mailboxes and some of the vehicles on the side of the street," said Banks.
The victim, who doesn't want to be identified, said Banks -- a neighbor she has never formally met -- a godsend.
"That's what it's about – you know, everybody watching for each other's back because you never know when it's going to happen to you," the victim said.
Authorities said that they have three of the four suspects in custody thanks in part to the 911 call that Banks's wife made. An officer responding to the call spotted the vehicle and followed it into an apartment complex. Two of the suspects in custody are minors.
The neighbors in the community tell us authorities are looking for a fourth suspect involved in this break-in.
