A school bus carrying five children plowed into the garage of a home on Long Island after the driver suffered a medical problem, according to a fire department official.
The bus had just left St. Edward's School in Syosset when the accident happened. The bus plowed into a single-family home across the street from the school on Jackson Avenue, Syosset Fire Chief Peter Silver said.
The children were not hurt, but the driver suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to Nassau University Medical Center, the chief said.
No one was at home when the bus crashed.
Emergency officials from several municipalities responded to carefully extract the bus and secure the foundation of the home, Silver said.
Parents picked up the children, who are between 5 and 8 years old.
