The day of the first presidential debate of 2012, President Obama appears to hold a commanding lead over former Gov. Mitt Romney in New Jersey, a poll found.
According to the Rutgers-Eagleton Poll, Obama holds a 17-point lead over Romney - a three point increase since August.
The poll found 56 percent of New Jersey voters say they prefer Obama, while 39 percent support Romney.
"This poll reflects recent national trends," Rutgers-Eagleton Poll director and political science professor David Redlawsk said in a statement.
"Ronmney's missteps on Libya and his "47 percent" comments may have had effects, though he was already well behind here. We've also seen a pickup in voters who say they are Democrats, which is reflected in the poll's partisan makeup."
The poll found the economy and jobs remains the most important election issue by far for New Jersey voters. The poll found 52 percent of voters feel the president is better able to manage the economy, while 43 percent felt Romney was the better fit.

An armed deli robbery is caught on camera. Two brazen gunmen held up the store owner with the man's kids right nearby. It's scary enough having armed gunmen storm your business.
