Man killed 13-month-old son, cops say

A 22-year-old man Orange County man has been charged with suffocating his 13-month old son with a blanket.

Port Jervis City Police detectives arrested Brett M. Kanoff, 22, on Tuesday.

City police say that about 11:40 a.m. on Sept. 24 officers responded to a 911 call reporting a child wasn't breathing at a Ball St. home.

Officials say Cameron Louis Kanoff was taken to Bon Secours Community Hospital, where he was declared dead by medical staff.

An investigation led by police, the Orange County Child Abuse Task Force,  Department of Social Services, Orange County Medical Examiner's Office,   New York State Police, and the Orange County District Attorney's Office led to Tuesday's arrest.

Kanoff is charged with second-degree murder. He's being held in the Orange County Jail without bail. He was scheduled to appear in city court Wednesday.
