Police on Long Island arrested a Bronx man for allegedly setting fire to his ex-girlfriend's apartment door in Freeport -- twice.
Patrick Mitchell, 43, set fire to the door on Monday morning, police said. Freeport firefighters responded and put out the fire, which damaged the door and the hallway.
The county arson bomb squad and the county fire marshal launched an investigation.
Then on Tuesday morning, Mitchell came back and set fire to the door again, police said. That fire set off an alarm, which alerted the police and fire marshal.
While firefighters put out the flames for a second time, a Freeport police officer found Mitchell at the Freeport LIRR station and arrested him.
Authorities charged Mitchell with two counts of second-degree arson and second-degree burglary.
He is set to be arraigned on October 3 at First District in Hempstead.
