Amazon.com's new Kindle Paperwhite e-readers began shipping Tuesday, the company said.

The Kindle Paperwhite features a higher-resolution and higher-contrast screen that make it closer to white than previous iterations, a built-in front light for nighttime reading, and an eight-week battery life, according to Amazon.com.

The Paperwhite starts at $119, depending on the model. It comes in 3G and wi-fi-only versions.

Amazon.com's new line of 8.9-inch Kindle Fire HD tablets will ship in November, the company said.
