Cops: Child-care provider left children alone in car

A Long Island child-care center owner is accused of leaving two young children alone in a car outside a Costco.

Suffolk County Police say it happened Monday afternoon in Melville.

A witness noticed an children were unattended in a locked Honda CRV.

Police say the good Samaritan unlocked a door through an open window and took the 4-year-old girl and the 8-month-old girl, who was not in a proper child restraint seat, into the store. 

It appears that the girls, who were not injured, alone at lease 10 minutes.

49-year-old Bridget Erwat was arrested and charged with two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

Erwat owns Bridget's Children's Place and operates it out of her Amityville home.  She posted bail and will be arraigned at a later date.
