Suspect in Conn. carjacking was on parole

Posted: Updated:

NEW BRITAIN, Conn. (AP) - Authorities say a Berlin woman who has been charged with carjacking was on special parole and was convicted for robbery with a dangerous instrument.

The New Britain Herald reports that Maryann Skwiot is accused of approaching an elderly woman and asking for a ride. The unidentified woman agreed to give Skwiot a ride and police say she was pushed out of the vehicle onto the street.

Skwiot has been charged with carjacking, threatening, larceny and assault on a victim over 60 and drug charges.

Court records say Skwiot is on special parole for violating her probation on a 2005 first-degree robbery conviction. It was not known Tuesday morning if she's represented by a lawyer.
