A 12-year-old heart transplant recipient is the namesake of a new law in New York State that is expected to save lives and increase enrollment in organ donation.
Good Day NY spoke with Lauren Shields and the sponsor of the legislation, NYS Sen. David Carlucci.
The organ donation portion of an application at the DMV will no longer be optional under Lauren's Law.
"Only 19 percent of eligible people are enrolled in the organ donation program in New York State," Carlucci told GDNY.
