Game Preview: Bears at Cowboys

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) -

FOX Chicago Sports Analyst Tom Waddle's preview of the Monday Night Football matchup between the Chicago Bears and Dallas Cowboys.

Well, it was better versus the Rams. Not "out of this world" better, but better. The line was less than water tight. There were several drops, and Jay wasn't at his best, but there was improvement. Mike Tice dialed up a more acceptable game plan as well, committing to the run and getting Jay outside the pocket to help protect his offensive line. I still believe in their enormous potential, but the Bears offense has yet to find their rhythm. The Cowboys haven't been a whole lot better. Much like the Bears, after an impressive week one, Tony Romo and friends have struggled. Last week, they were roughed up by a Buccaneers defense that allowed more than 600 yards in the Meadowlands in week 2. Despite the struggles, Romo has a ton to work with in Austin - Witten and Bryant on the edge and a dynamic runner in DeMarco Murray. The Cowboys get the edge on offense.

If not for Lovie's defense, this Bears team would be in a world of hurt. From the start, I believed this D would play second fiddle to an upgraded, more explosive offense. Obviously I was wrong. The play of the D-line has been the highlight of the early season. The front four has registered 13 of the teams 14 quarterback takedowns, with everyone pitching in. And what more can I say about the play of Tim Jennings. He leads the league with four interceptions and nine passes defended. Their counterparts have been equally impressive. The Cowboys are allowing a league best 250 yards per game, while surrendering just 18 points per Sunday. They have the leagues most disruptive pass rush in Demarcus Ware and arguably the best young cornerback tandem. These are two of the NFL's heavyweights, and I'm giving the Bears the edge on defense.

Special Teams

My Hester prediction fell flat last week, but I know this is more than indigestion. My gut is telling me he's about to break a big one. I'm sticking with it. Robbie Gould helps the cause as well. The Bears get the edge on special teams.

The Bears and Cowboys, Monday night football in Big D! This is a sexy matchup. At least on the surface. After impressive week one performances, both teams have been less than stellar. Both teams also sit at 2-1, and could use a big win to get them out of the doldrums. There are so many similarities: Dominant defenses, offenses loaded with playmakers, lines bursting at the seams and quarterbacks everyone loves to hate. I've thought long and hard and changed my mind several times, but three things continue to stick with me. J'Marcus Webb versus DeMarcus Ware is a disaster waiting to happen. The Bears desperately need Matt Forte at full strength to function. And home field is a serious advantage, especially when you're shaky up front. My heart says burnt orange and navy blue. My head says America's team.

Cowboys 23, Bears 20
