Cops: cab driver dropped off missing teen at train station

Police in New Jersey are investigating the disappearance of a suburban teen after a mysterious post on her Twitter account.

Kara Alongi of Clark tweeted:  "There is someone in my hour ecall 911."

Her twitter account has not had another message since that post on Sunday at about 6:30 p.m.

Police are not sure she is in any danger after a cab driver told them he picked her up at her home and dropped her off at the Rahway Train Station at about the same time the tweet was posted.

The 16-year-old was home alone at the time, according to police. No Amber Alert was activated.

Her parents called the authorities about an hour later when they returned home and discovered she was not there.

Police Chief Alan Scherb told The Star-Ledger there was no sign of foul play in the family's home.

K-9 units tracked Alongi's scent from the back door of the house, through a neighbor's yard and then to the sidewalk and around the corner back onto her block where the scent went cold, said police.

Clark Police encourage anyone with information about Alongi's whereabouts to contact the Clark Police Department or send an anonymous tip to Union County Crime Stoppers at 908-654-TIPS, www.uctip.org or Text UCTIP plus a message to 274637.

She gained thousands of followers after asking people on her Twitter account. People re-tweeted her message and the hashtag "helpfindkara" trended on the social network.   Alongi has more than 90,000 followers by Monday morning.

A Facebook page was also created at Facebook.com/HelpFindKaraAlongi

Scherb says the girl remains missing and should call police.

The family did not respond to requests for information from Fox 5 News.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
