Northwestern student from Long Island drowned

EVANSTON, Ill. (AP) -

Autopsy results show a Northwestern University student found in a suburban Chicago harbor drowned, but the medical examiner does not know whether the death was accidental.

The body of Harsha Maddula, 18, was found in Wilmette Harbor on Thursday night, six days after he disappeared after leaving an off-campus party. Investigators have said there were no signs of foul play.

The Cook County Medical Examiner's office said Friday that the manner of his death was undetermined because there was not enough information to rule it an accident, a homicide or a suicide.

Maddula was a sophomore from New Hyde Park, N.Y., at Northwestern's McCormick School of Engineering and Applied Science.
