Mmmmmm.... bacon.
BERKLEY, Mich. (WJBK) -
News of a coming bacon shortage is traveling faster than a greased sow trying to escape a pig roast.
Industry experts are predicting a worldwide bacon and pork shortage sometime in the next year.
A report in the Christian Science Monitor cites drought conditions around much of the globe this past summer as the reason for the expected higher prices. "Pig-feed has become unaffordable following disastrous growing and harvesting weather," reads a statement from the National Pig Association released earlier this month. "Governments are becoming increasingly concerned."

But one economist says it's not so much a shortage that is to be expected, but rather a price increase.
The number of slaughtered pigs will go down about 10 percent in the second half of 2013, the NPA says, possibly doubling the price of pork products in the European Union.
The price of pork belly went up 46 cents to $1.40 per pound between July and August.
Local diners in Berkley tell FOX 2 the news grabs their attention, but they're not too worried. "There's other breakfast meats," says diner Matthew Kaufman. "But bacon comes to mind automatically."
