MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - A senior New York State parole official in charge of officers who supervise paroled sex offenders has been arrested on federal charges of possessing child pornography.
A criminal complaint Tuesday accuses 50-year-old James Leone of Bethpage of possessing images of children engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Leone was arrested at his Long Island home earlier Tuesday.
He was scheduled to make an initial court appearance later Tuesday before Judge Kathleen Tomlinson in U.S. District Court in Central Islip.
His attorney did not immediately return a telephone message.
A spokesman for the state Correction Department said Leone had been with the parole department since 1994. He declined comment on the allegations.
The federal complaint details lurid images of children being abused by adults in various sexual acts.
