Driver killed in Yonkers after attempting to flee police

A driver was killed in a head-on crash after he allegedly attempted to elude police in Yonkers early Saturday morning. 

Police say they were patrolling the area of Glenwood Avenue around 1:27 a.m. when they heard what appeared to be multiple shots fired. The officers then witnessed a 1999 green Honda Civic abruptly flee the scene.  

According to police, when the officers attempted to pull the vehicle over, it refused to stop and fled the scene at a high rate of speed.  

The driver, 28-year-old Brandon Turner of White Plains, sped through the Getty Square area headed southbound on the northbound side of the street, according to police. 

Police say Turner's vehicle crashed into another police vehicle head-on near 87 South Broadway. Turner was pronounced dead at the scene and the two officers were seriously injured. 

The two officers were taken to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx where they are expected to survive their injuries.  

Relatives of Turner said he had been drinking at a cousin's wedding when he got behind the wheel of his Honda Civic to head home.

Internal Affairs Division and the Westchester County District Attorney's Office say there investigation is ongoing.
