Yankee closer Rafael Soriano greeted the young students at St. Raymond's Elementary School in the Bronx and offered some words of advice and encouragement.

One of the reasons Soriano decided to visit St. Ray's is because of 8th grader Jeuri Gonzalez. Soriano and Jeuri first met and struck up a relationship back in the spring, shortly after Jeuri lost seven members of his family, including his mother, sister and grandparents, in that tragic van crash back in April on the Bronx River Parkway.

Principal Sister Brito said Soriano's visit had a positive impact on Jeuri and the entire school.

Soriano's charitable works have not gone unnoticed. He was also recognized by the Bronx Chamber of Commerce for his dedicated service in the community.
