A meeting was held Thursday night to talk about a proposed garbage-transfer station near LaGuardia Airport.
The city wants to put the station about 2,000 feet from a LaGuardia runway. Many people, lawmakers, and businesses in Queens oppose it, saying it could attract bird and increase the risk of bird strikes on planes.
Even Captain Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger, who landed his plane in the Hudson after a bird strike, has come out against the location.
But a report from the FAA says the transfer station is not inherently in conflict with safe operations at the airport -- as long as the city follows special rules. It was carefully studied by a blue-ribbon panel of experts from a variety of agencies specifically for the purpose of assessing the facility's potential to attract birds.

The van rear-ended a Taxi and Limousine Commission vehicle at the corner of Church Ave. and Utica Ave. at about 7:45 a.m., said police. One of the pedestrians that was struck by the van was taken to Brookdale Hospital. Four other victims were taken to Kings County Hospital.
